Laura Reynolds-Keefer completed her undergraduate work at Michigan State University, and has a Master's degree from Midwestern State University-Texas in history. She taught both elementary and secondary social science in Ohio and Texas, and received her doctorate from the University of South Carolina in educational psychology and research methodology.
