University of Michigan-Dearborn is a metropolitan university serving southeastern Michigan, committed to excellence rooted in strong academics, innovative research and engaged learning. Now in its 25th year, UM-Dearborn’s School of Education (SOE) provides exemplary preparation and continuing education for PK-12 teachers and administrators. The school offers programs leading to initial teacher certification at the bachelor’s and master’s levels and opportunities for professional development and advancement through degrees at the master’s, education specialist and doctoral levels.
SOE offers programs in many important areas including early childhood education, educational leadership, educational technology, special education, and the teaching of many school subjects. Students have opportunities to test theories of teaching and learning in action and to hone their own skills as they engage with education professionals and children in area school districts and at the highly regarded Early Childhood Education Center (ECEC).
The SOE Teacher Preparation Program is accredited by the Teacher Education Accreditation Council and annually receives an “Exemplary” designation, the highest available, by Michigan’s Department of Education. The school has been shaped by its history of partnering with schools and community organizations to improve teaching and learning throughout the region.
