This class covers the legislative process, lobbying techniques, current legislative issues and how board members can work to affect legislation through grassroots involvement.

Course Objectives:

When you complete this course, you will be able to:

  • identify major steps involved in moving a proposal through the legislative process
  • explain ways in which board members can become more involved in influencing the legislative process related to education
  • explain the role of MASB's Government Relations unit and the process MASB uses for formulating positions on policy issues
  • discuss the importance of the electoral process and identify ways in which board members can influence who gets elected to state and federal office
