Municipal - School District Collaboration June (date TBA)
The pressure is growing for local governments in Southeast Michigan to collaborate more on service delivery. State funding for both municipalities and school districts is being tied to collaboration. Increasing fiscal constraints are forcing municipalities and school districts to find ways to cut costs while improving service delivery. Given the overlapping boundaries of these two governmental entities, collaboration seems logical. In fact, several communities already share services between their municipal and school district governments.
While municipal - school district collaboration sounds nice, what does it mean in the real world? Is it a real option for your district or municipality? What types of services are good targets for collaboration? What are the first, second, third steps to creating collaborative partnerships across municipal and school district boundaries? How do you structure agreements to collaborate on service delivery? What have the experiences for collaborators been so far?
In this interactive seminar, elected officials from both school districts and municipal governments will come together to move past the feel-good discussion to the nitty-gritty of how to make collaboration work.
This seminar is being offered in partnership with the Michigan Suburbs Alliance.
