This project was a collaborative effort between professors at the University of Michigan Dearborn and the Ford Partnership for Advanced Study (Ford PAS) in response to requests from administrators and educators. Each crosswalk was developed to the Standards level of current Michigan Curriculum Frameworks. For further development, schools and districts will need to do benchmark level linkage with their local curriculum.
We are aware that these standards in Science, Mathematics, English Language Arts, and Social Studies are linked to the current MEAP examinations in those content areas, and that the MEAP will not be used in its current form in the future. We are also aware that state graduation requirements have changed and that there is increasing pressure on schools to increase course loads in these four subject areas. While the Ford PAS curriculum is interdisciplinary, with an emphasis on rigorous training for post-secondary education and careers in business and technology, these documents demonstrate that all five courses relate well to portions of the high school core curriculum. Additionally, all five courses have such a strong emphasis on technology that any one of them might be used as a stand-alone technology and/or business course.
Overview: - The accompanying matrices are tools to assist educators to develop crosswalks at the benchmark level for specific Ford PAS programs.
- They are intended as dynamic documents that can be adjusted to local standards and changing state standards.
- Individual schools and districts need to do benchmark level linkage with their programs and curriculum.
- This project has a broad-based focus. Individual Ford PAS programs may require a higher level of specificity.
- WorkKeys crosswalks, CTE curriculum crosswalks, and other crosswalk projects may find these tools useful.
- Click here to download a matrix that is specific to Michigan, demonstrating the crosswalk of the Ford PAS curriculum to Michigan Curriculum Frameworks in the areas of Science, Mathematics, English Language Arts, and Social Studies.
- Each Ford PAS module contains six activities, so modules may hit the same standard as many as six times. For this matrix, however, when a module met a specific standard more than once, it was only counted once.
- Click here to download a matrix completed by Ford PAS in conjunction with the Educational Development Center (EDC) related to the crosswalk of Ford PAS courses & modules to national standards.
Template use: - Download the crosswalks template (Word document) for the State of Michigan standards and customize it to reflect your individual needs or requirements.
- Feel free to change any or all of the standards/benchmarks to meet local program area standards.
- Review newer Curriculum Framework Content Standards, and electronically remove those that do not apply.
- A local team of Ford PAS experts should review and approve all local efforts. For accuracy, the team could include all Ford PAS instructors, curriculum coordinators, and administrators.
- For Benchmark information, local staff should go to the Michigan Department of Education website and review all MI Curriculum Framework documents.
Benefits: - Provides linkage between the Ford PAS curriculum and current Michigan Standards. Correlation with National Standards is also available in each module.
- National Standards include areas like Business, Technology, Engineering, and Economics – all covered well in Ford PAS materials.
- Will assist “highly qualified” Ford PAS instructional staff in Michigan to document the correlation between the Ford PAS curriculum and current state benchmarks in core curriculum areas.
- Demonstrates The University of Michigan-Dearborn’s support of the Ford PAS program and the Michigan Curriculum Frameworks and MEAP objectives.
- Enables schools and districts with Ford PAS programs to strengthen communication with curriculum directors, superintendents, building administrators, parents, and other local constituencies.
- Curriculum crosswalks encourage communications between all constituencies.
- Assists locals in establishing support for academic credit granted for Ford PAS programs.
