For 7-12 teachers with BS or BA degrees in a science discipline
Graduates of Track II of this program will: - know and be able to use the science content related to the environment in the Michigan Curriculum Framework so that they can prepare and present inquiry-oriented science (including appropriate use of technology to improve student learning),
- be able to teach science using learning by inquiry pedagogy,
- be designers of valid and reliable instruments of assessment, and
- be able to objectively evaluate, use and apply research to improve teaching and learning (including the ability to conduct classroom research).
The 30 credit hours required for the MS/SE degree are divided into four categories:
Content (9 credits) Three science content courses from the MSES curriculum (possible courses are based on BA/BS degree.
Pedagogy (9 credits) EDD 574 Environmental Education OR EDD 586 Environmental Interpretation EDD 680 Advanced Teaching of Science in the Secondary School EDT 510 Teaching with Technology
Assessment (9 credits) EDK 500 Introduction to Research in Education EDC 554 Evaluation of Learning EXPS 520 Science Education Action Research Project
Elective courses (3 credits) Any graduate level course in the School of Education or the College of Arts, Sciences and Letters as approved by the MS/SE Program Committee.
No course can be taken for pass/fail credit if applied to the MS/SE degree.
